Galettes des Rois for Epiphany 2026

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

A true tradition dating back to the 14th century, Epiphany brings together young and old around the essential and delicious galette des rois. This Christian festival, which celebrates the arrival of the incarnate Messiah in the world and the visit paid to him by the Magi, falls on a Tuesday this year, January 6, 2026. But since the biblical date is not a public holiday, it is customary to celebrate it on the first Sunday after the 1st of January, so this year it falls on Sunday, January 4. Afterwards, it is also customary to eat these cakes during the first fifteen days of January, so you still have time to enjoy them!

At the beginning of 2026, I am sharing my little selection of top picks and cakes for this first celebration of the year, and I also hope you end this convivial moment with a crowned head if possible…

Of course, this selection is by no means exhaustive and only concerns the few cakes I had the opportunity to taste beforehand to prepare this article. I will also add my other tests throughout the month of January (during which it is customary to taste these cakes)!

The star chef Yazid Ichemrahen (2M followers on Instagram) has opened a confidential address in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, At Home, where he welcomes his clients as if they were in his own home. The favorite photographer visited to test his Epiphany cake, which is a limited edition pear & Venezuelan dark chocolate galette.

I have already mentioned this Parisian ice cream parlor, which the favorite photographer and I have loved for years, several times! This brand was founded in part by Emmanuel Ryon, MOF Glacier & World Pastry Champion.

This year, the ice cream parlor offers several cakes (including an ice cream version), as well as a brioche crown, and transforms Epiphany into a journey to Japan. You can also try to find one of the winning charms (exclusive “Kokeshi” charms: when the miniature Japanese doll becomes a good luck charm) to win one of the 6 art jewelry pieces made by Sandrine Tessier (values between €500 and €1250), Haute Joaillerie designer and Meilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF) “enameler on precious metals”.

The top tip: in addition to this, Une Glace à Paris and Sandrine Tessier are organizing a contest on their social networks to win 2 other art jewelry pieces as well as an exclusive and private meeting with the 2 MOFs in Paris (one winner on Facebook and one winner on Instagram).

This pastry shop & bakery belongs to pastry chef Alice Lin, and I have already mentioned it on the blog in my selection of pastry shops in Paris. The brand has 2 locations in the 11th arrondissement.

The extra touch: when picking up the galette, you also get a paper with a code to scan to play an online game and try to win prizes!

In 2026, we tested this year’s new recipe: the Pistachio Galette. On the menu: inverted puff pastry, frangipane cream, pistachio paste, and pistachio praline.

The famous Parisian artisanal bakery and pastry shop Bo&Mie (which opened its first store in 2017) also offers a collection for the holidays that we had the chance to discover in preview. It features 100% homemade creations made with carefully selected raw materials.

In 2026, Bo&Mie offers 3 Signature galettes in addition to the original almond cream galette:

  • the Pistachio Galette: inverted puff pastry, pistachio frangipane, pistachio crunch, pistachio praline, and crushed pistachios
  • the Apple Frangipane Galette: for fans of fruity galettes with inverted puff pastry, frangipane, apple compote, and roasted apple pieces

The famous Parisian chocolatier is committed to traceable sourcing from cocoa to the producer. Their chocolates contain no artificial colors or flavors, no GMOs, and no palm oil. Like every year, in addition to the signature galette I present below, La Maison du Chocolat also offers a more classic chocolate and almond galette (€45 for 6 people).

In 2026, Nicolas Cloiseau proposes crowning a seasonal pleasure with a chocolate and pecan association. Carya, a chocolate majesty, honors the pecan. Its name, borrowed from the pecan tree, already heralds its character. Queen of nuts, it invites itself to the edge of chocolate. On the program: an extra-fine AOP Charentes-Poitou pure butter puff pastry, a pecan frangipane, a 70% dark chocolate ganache, adorned with an openwork dark chocolate crown.

The Mavrommatis house, which I have already mentioned in several themed articles and on which I also wrote a full article, offers its selection of delicacies with Greek flavors for the holidays.

This Greek galette is prepared in honor of Saint Basil, Bishop of Caesarea. For centuries, the Vassilopita has been a good luck charm for the new year. In the galette, we find grilled almonds, orange zest, cinnamon, vanilla, and orange blossom. And hidden inside is a coin.

For its 2025/2026 holiday collection, the Maison Lenôtre proposes boarding the Wonder Train, a magical convoy that only passes once a year, on Christmas night. On board, each carriage tells a moment of celebration: from the table of great reunions to the sweets that extend the season, every moment is thought out to make the magic of the holidays shine, day after day.

This Lenôtre signature galette offers a crispy puff pastry adorned with golden wheat grains, a brioche soaked in orange blossom syrup, and a frangipane cream scented with orange blossom. At its heart, one finds a date compote enhanced with apricot. And this year, the collection of 4 charms in limited edition is illustrated by Studio Marianne Guély.

This Parisian brand (which I have already mentioned in my selection of bakeries in Paris), which has several locations in the capital (in the 5th, 12th, 15th, 16th, and 17th) and one in Levallois-Perret, is committed to producing, with respect for the material, a high-quality, meaningful bread, with a range of 100% organic breads, sold by weight, in pieces or by the slice and delivered every day by bike fresh from the oven. This is obviously its philosophy for its other products as well. Archibald bakeries are also famous for their delicious galettes.

This traditional galette features a crispy puff pastry made with organic flour and filled with an almond frangipane.

Pastry chef Nina Métayer has been the ambassador for AOP Charentes-Poitou Butter since 2019, which she uses in her recipes.

This year she offers 3 galettes for 2026 at Délicatisserie: “Solstice“, the signature galette with AOP Charente-Poitou butter puff pastry (€69); “L’Arbre de vie“, a galette with frangipane with cream infused with green cardamom and caramelized apple cubes, and obviously also an AOP Charente-Poitou butter puff pastry (€44); “Ambrée“, the classic rum frangipane galette (€36).

At Sain, everything is organic, without refined or added sugar. It’s Anthony Courteille‘s secret for rediscovering the flavors of yesteryear that are dear to him, and it’s a huge success. These products can be found in the stores on Rue Alibert in the 10th arrondissement of Paris and Rue des Gravilliers in the 3rd as of early January.

Since its opening, Sain has offered a classic galette des rois but with a true frangipane taste where whole almonds make the difference. The extra touch? It’s also the charms, exclusive light brown clay ones engraved with “Grace & Mila”, created by the ceramic workshop “Le tabouret” in Montreuil. A true talisman to collect or wear as a good luck piece of jewelry all year long. These charms embody the finesse and know-how that unite the two houses.

I am a huge fan of the red praline galette des rois from the iconic Lyonnais master chocolatier and pastry chef, Richard Sève. I think it is difficult to find elsewhere than in Lyon, but it has been my little favorite for years!

Artisan baker Éric Kayser and his team offer a collection of galettes and brioches to celebrate Epiphany but also the 30th anniversary of the brand (the first boutique having opened on Rue Monge in 1996). With a traditional frangipane galette with almond cream and pure butter puff pastry from Touraine, and a southern brioche crown scented with orange blossom, garnished with candied fruits and large sugar grains. In addition to this, there is also a 2026 creation galette with citrus (in a version only for 6-7 people at €32) with a frangipane cream with almonds highlighted by notes of citrus, with orange, grapefruit, and lime, associated with a pure butter puff pastry, golden and crispy. Plus, there is also a collection of pendant charms with 7 different designs, on the theme “kings and queens of the world” (box of 7 charms €27).

The top tip: to make this celebration even more exceptional, Maison Kayser is partnering with the Comptoir National de l’Or and invites its customers to participate in a lucky draw; from December 27, 2025, to January 31, 2026, the purchase of a citrus or frangipane galette, for 4, 6, or 8 people, in Eric Kayser bakeries in mainland France, excluding train stations and airports, will allow you to try to win a 250g gold bar, worth €31,500.

This brand is the story of 2 buddies who teamed up to open a 100% homemade bakery-pastry shop. They work with French organic flours, Label Rouge, and AOP Charentes Poitou butter like Nina Métayer (see above). You can find an almond galette des rois (€29.40 for 6 people) and a brioche des rois (€17.80 for 6 people).

There are 3 essential things for a good Epiphany: the galette, a crown, and a good sparkling bottle (well, in my opinion, anyway…). As a general rule, I like to accompany it with cider, but this year, I am offering a slightly wider selection than that.

_

Like every year, Alain Milliat offers several festive drinks for Epiphany: the cider (brut and semi-dry), Cuvée Juliette (€9 for 75cl and €4.50 for 33cl), an IGP cider from Normandy, 100% pure juice, farm-made, sulfite-free, and organic; the lemon/caviar iced infusion with bitter orange peels (€4.95 for 25cl) in a limited edition or the ready-to-drink yuzu or ginger sparkling drinks.

If you have any good addresses, a preference, or advice on finding the best galette des rois, don’t hesitate to leave a little comment to share your tip! And happy Epiphany to everyone!
