I am a big fan of the Mavrommatis brand, which I previously wrote about in a comprehensive article on the blog. The brand is run by a Cypriot family and has been a reference point for Mediterranean and Greek cuisine in Paris since 1981. Well-established in the 5th arrondissement, Mavrommatis owns no less than 4 restaurants in the capital, as well as a catering service, a wine cellar, and fine grocery stores. In 2017, the house opened a new location on the west side of Paris, in the Passy district.
The favorite photographer and I had the chance to visit the area on a Saturday noon in 2017 to discover the restaurant’s menu. On the ground floor of the boutique, there is a meze counter for snacking at any time of day, and on the first floor, there is a restaurant to discover Hellenic and Mediterranean specialties. In the basement, the cellar also offers multiple tastings to discover Greek wines. In 2024, the restaurant opened a new chapter in its culinary history to become Osmossi, and we returned to the site for a dinner with Mediterranean flavors.

Our 2024 review:
The Osmossi menu is created by Michelin-starred chef Andréas Mavrommatis, featuring dishes based on Mediterranean gastronomy. For starters, I recommend the trios of hot or cold mezedes (priced between €16 and €22), which allow you to sample and share several things. For the main course, we tested the leg of lamb skewers marinated in mild garlic and paprika (€28) and the Soudjoukakia, beef meatballs with crushed tomatoes (€24). For dessert, I recommend the PDO Manouri, a goat and sheep’s milk cheese accompanied by Cretan honey and Aegina pistachios (€12).

Our 2017 review:
- Three small cold mezzedes to whet the appetite with a delicious tarama (my mouth is still watering!!!!), hummus, and eggplant caviar.
- For the starter, I loved the thin slices of half-cooked swordfish with a lemon-sesame vinaigrette and hummus (€17.60); it was truly excellent. I highly recommend it if you like fish carpaccio.
- Another lovely starter is the veal carpaccio with artichokes à la barigoule and tonnato sauce (€14.50). Even though I’m not a fan of raw meat, I found it delicious!
- For the main course, the favorite photographer tested the traditional Moussaka of lamb and veal with eggplants, zucchini, and crushed tomatoes (€19); it is served with a side salad.
- As for me, I chose the “gnocchi Sardi” pasta with Cretan snails, tied together with coriander and mild garlic (€19).
- For dessert, we were looking for something not too heavy, and we really liked the Mahalepi, a milk cream with orange blossom and toasted pistachios (€8).
- Another more classic dessert was the lime tart with lemon sorbet (€8.50), perfectly tangy!
- Regarding wine, I highly recommend letting the sommelier guide you to discover the treasures of Greek vineyards, which are unfortunately still quite poorly known in France…
