My selection of brunches in the 5th arrondissement of Paris

Today I wanted you to meet Sadia, who runs a lovely little spot located on a small, hilly street in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, in the Jussieu student quarter. She knows how to make quiches like no one else, and her cooking is simply delicious. The house offers a very good brunch, but only on Saturdays, as the establishment is closed on Sundays. Nothing too complicated in terms of cooking, but good products prepared with love and simplicity, resulting in a tasty experience. So, homemade tarts with a thin, crispy crust, fluffy muffins, and a succulent cheesecake that truly deserves to be tasted! For my part, I tested the brunch that La Reine des Tartes offers on Saturday lunchtimes, for which there are two set menus:

  • The “grand gourmand” brunch for €24, which includes 1 fresh orange juice, unlimited hot drinks, 1 muffin or 1 cookie, 1 savory tart served with crudités, 1 gourmet dessert of your choice (cheesecake, chocolate fondant, crumble, fruit tart, verrine…) or 1 assortment of cheeses
  • The “gourmand” brunch for €19, which includes 1 fresh orange juice, 1 hot drink, 1 muffin or 1 cookie, 1 savory tart served with crudités, 1 plain 0% yogurt with your choice of raspberry coulis or honey
Slice of vegetable tart with salad, grated carrots, and red cabbage.

This lovely little address on rue Mouffetard (which is not far from me, as you know), which also acts as a gourmet grocery store, offers a nice brunch on weekends. Since the brunch is generous, my companion for the day, Catherine, opted for the orzo salad (a type of pasta) with preserved lemon, parsley, feta, and young shoots (€12.50). We weren’t too thrilled with the taste of this salad, which is quite unique, so I wouldn’t personally recommend it, but that may just be a personal preference… Anyway, between the main course and sharing the brunch, we had plenty for two! We just added a glass of detox juice (€6.50) and a coffee (€2.50). This can be a great tip when coming as a pair; one person orders a brunch and the other a dish to try more things from the menu and have a bit more variety.

Brunch set menu for €29 (served on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays):

  • a choice of hot drinks (Mariage Frères tea or Nespresso coffee)
  • a fresh fruit juice
  • a bread basket with pastries + butter, jams, and Piedmont hazelnut spread
  • avocado toast, beetroot hummus, and mesclun
  • soft-boiled egg and Poilâne bread
  • Greek yogurt and homemade granola
  • assortment of 3 desserts
