Simonetta, the new trattoria on the Canal de l’Ourcq

Opened very recently, since the end of March this year, Simonetta is a lovely Italian spot by the water that I was invited to test just recently with my favorite photographer.

As for the decor, it’s a very pleasant place to settle into, with lush vegetation, patinated furniture, and a mix of textures featuring wicker, antique wood, and velvet.

On the menu, you’ll mainly find delicious pizzas made with 100% fresh Italian ingredients, and you can really taste it! When we went, there were no pasta dishes on the menu yet, but it was planned for the following week, so that must be the case now…

Plus, the pizzas are cooked in a Neapolitan wood-fired oven (imported directly from Naples), and the icing on the cake is that the dough is organic and matured for 48 hours to ensure a fluffy texture that is both light and crispy.

Note: the bread served on-site is also made by the restaurant and baked in the same Neapolitan oven as the pizzas.

Rustic, floured and sculpted breads, a Simonetta bakery specialty.

To try:

  • As an aperitif, we tested 2 Italian cocktails: the Tramonto with Amaretto, orange juice, and grenadine (€9) and the Caramella with Limoncello, Prosecco, and cucumber syrup (€9).

Two fruity cocktails, one light green, the other orange and red, with lime garnish.

  • For a starter, if you are very hungry (because the pizzas are quite generous), I recommend sharing a Burrata Pugliese, a specialty from the Puglia region with a creamy stracciatella heart (€9). I personally love it!

  • For pizza, I recommend taking a look at the house “speciali” pizzas, such as the Mortazza pizza with its pistachio pesto (€18), or the Punta d’Anca with artichoke carpaccio and bresaola (€18). They are very original, and the combination of flavors is very successful.

  • For a sweet touch, the establishment offers Italian classics like the tiramisu with mascarpone cream, savoiardi biscuits, coffee, and dark chocolate (€7) or the famous ricottae pere, an almond biscuit with ricotta cream and candied pears (€8). As for the tiramisu, it is very good, but I found it a bit too caffeinated for my taste…

As a bonus, this visit was an opportunity to test a new video format for the blog’s YouTube channel featuring 1-minute restaurant review videos.

The little extra: a very small terrace overlooking the canal for sunny days.

Thanks to Simonetta for this invitation.
