The best Parisian spots to grab an ice cream

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

To enjoy these final days of sunshine (yes, we tend to forget that it’s still August), it’s the perfect time to share my little selection of great Parisian spots to savor delicious ice creams during the summer season. No discrimination here; I’ve tested them for you (yes, yes, it was hard work, I admit!): ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, and other frozen desserts.

A bit of history: it was the Chinese who first succeeded in preparing ice cream with snow. They passed their secrets on to the Persians and Arabs, who in turn introduced them to the Italians. The latter brought them into the French royal court via Catherine de’ Medici.

Profiterole Chérie (closed)

Profiterole Chérie is a charming little gourmet boudoir tucked away in the Marais, dressed all in pink, where you go to enjoy succulent profiteroles that you’ll gobble up greedily, these little treats are just that good! Given the summer temperatures, we jumped on the frozen version of these little cakes, which are simply divine. I particularly fell for the crunch and freshness of the choux pastry, and as a bonus, the place doesn’t lack charm—it’s cozy and sweet as can be.

What I tested:

  • Chérie Strawberry, crunchy profiterole, strawberry sorbet, fresh strawberries with cream, and red fruit sauce.
  • The ephemeral July Chérie, with an Apricot flavor.

Price: €6 for frozen profiteroles / €7 for the daily ephemeral profiterole

A Prelys Frozen Yogurt at the Paris Marriott Champs Elysees Hotel

This summer, I took advantage of the summer heatwave to enjoy a frozen and fruity break at the only 5-star hotel opening directly onto the Champs-Elysées avenue. You go there first and foremost to enjoy a Prelys Frozen Yogurt, plain or vanilla, in a little cup, topped with garnishes like fresh seasonal fruits or brownie bits. We’d be silly not to enjoy it because these creamy, 100% natural ice creams are produced in the Pyrénées-Atlantique region with 0% fat cow’s or sheep’s milk and agave syrup. In short, no reason to feel guilty then…

Then, you also take the opportunity to discover this magnificent place, settling down on the hotel’s outdoor terrace in the middle of the Champs Elysées excitement, in the majestic lobby, under the impressive retractable glass dome, or even on the lovely interior terrace, to eat your ice cream. A must-try at least once in your summer!

70 avenue des Champs Elysees 75008 Paris

Open every day until October

Rates: price €6 to take away, €10 on-site with a topping of your choice

Frozen treats at the Mövenpick Paris Neuilly

You’re going to end up thinking that I spend my life in Neuilly right now, but it’s actually not that far from the truth… I had already told you about this beautiful hotel in Neuilly in one of my previous articles on hotel bars, since the establishment features a very beautiful Champagne bar. During the summer season, it’s above all the opportunity to go and taste the new Mövenpick ice cream menu! Indeed, the Swiss brand’s ice creams are natural, without additives or artificial coloring.

In total, more than 16 flavors are to be enjoyed on the hotel’s large terrace, well hidden inside the building away from noise and prying eyes. A confidential spot just the way I like them! You can choose from sundaes with colorful names: Colibri, Hot Berry, Black Forest, Honeymoon, Rainbow Kid, among others, and the Tête-à-tête, to be enjoyed as a couple, or sundaes to compose yourself according to your desires.

The little extra: the superb interior terrace of the hotel where you’d want to sit for hours…

Hôtel Mövenpick Paris Neuilly

58 Boulevard Victor Hugo, 92200 Neuilly-sur-Seine

Price: sundaes between €15 and €20 / personal sundae €4.30 per scoop + €1 supplement for whipped cream or sauce or fresh fruit

Berthillon Ice Creams

Berthillon is obviously the king of Parisian ice cream, and its boutique, nestled on the Île Saint-Louis, is always packed as soon as summer begins. I haven’t been back for a long time, but their sorbets have been famous for years in the capital. So if you’ve never tested this address, you absolutely must remedy that as quickly as possible! Furthermore, another very positive point is that Berthillon sources its fresh milk from the Viltain farm, in the Yvelines.

Berthillon
29/31 rue Saint-Louis-en-l'île 75004 Paris

open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM without interruption
please note however that the shop will be closed from July 26 to September 2, 2015

Gelati d’Alberto, rue Mouffetard

This artisanal ice cream parlor on rue Mouffetard is unfortunately quite close to my work, and my colleagues and I regularly walk up the charming pedestrian street to enjoy a little ice cream when summer comes… A very wide choice of Italian ice cream flavors, everything is homemade, and I strongly advise you to taste the sorbets, which are just delicious!

La Tropicale ice creams

A charming little address, also very close to my work, next to the Place d’Italie, which rotates its thirty or so flavors every day, so it’s impossible to know what you’re going to taste when you go there. Here, Thai-Thanh Dang draws from herbs, peppers, spices, or teas to highlight the flavors of seasonal fruits. Their selection of sorbets and creams takes you on a journey all around the world!

La Tropicale Glacier
180 Boulevard Vincent Auriol, 75013 Paris

Open Monday to Friday from 12:00 PM to 7:30 PM + Saturday and Sunday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Amorino rue Mouffetard

Amorino is also a well-known brand for Parisian ice cream lovers. The brand has many shops in Paris and around the world, and it is famous for its artisanal Gelati presented in the shape of a flower on its cones. I also took advantage of this tasting on rue Mouffetard to test their whole milk frappés (with the ice cream or sorbet of your choice, mixing 2 flavors is even possible), the milkshake version by Amorino which proved to be a great discovery.

Amorino
18 Rue Mouffetard 75005 Paris

Price: €5.50 for a 300 ml frappé / cone from €3.60 to €5.70 depending on the size

Oronero Caffè e Gelato

A great address for high-end Italian ice cream near Châtelet, discovered during the Taste of Paris event at the Grand Palais, and which I’ve noted to discover very soon…

Oronero Caffè e Gelato

6 rue Sainte-Opportune 75001 Paris
