My favorite crêperies in Paris

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

Today on the blog, I’m sharing a small selection of great crêperies in Paris. This will be a curated list of restaurants specializing in galettes and crêpes that I’ve had the chance to test in the capital, as I am a huge fan of this dish. The Parisian spots I’m presenting below are quite different from one another. And as usual, I regularly update this article based on my new tests and discoveries!

The unique thing about Brutus is that they offer a modern interpretation of buckwheat crêpes/galettes and cider, for example with buckwheat tapas to share as an appetizer, cider-based cocktails, and also a real focus on galette and cider pairings (pairing suggestions are provided directly on the menu). Everything is homemade, even the vinegar used to season the spinach shoots that accompany the crêpes, and they use fresh, seasonal ingredients. As for toppings, you’ll find classic recipes but also very successful creative versions, and the galettes are named after grandmothers in tribute to the founders’ own.

Brutus Château d’Eau is the latest address from the group, located in the 10th arrondissement this time. It is actually the largest of the group and was designed like a real neighborhood canteen. The space features several areas, each with its own atmosphere: large, convivial tables, comfortable benches, a cozy alcove to meet up with friends…

We tasted: the crispy salmon rolls to share (€7); the Annette, a type of “complete” galette pimped with truffle ham and PDO Comté cheese (€15.50), and the Paulette, which is super original with tajine chicken and grilled eggplant (€12.90); for dessert, we had the homemade chocolate hazelnut (€6) and the Bernadette with Tatin-style apples and homemade salted butter caramel (€8.50).

The Breton crêperie by Benoit Castel is located right next to his bakery in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. In the heart of this shop, you can buy the chef’s products, but also enjoy authentic buckwheat galettes and wheat crêpes on-site (indoor tables and outdoor terrace) every weekend. All accompanied by a good cider from Le Perche. For dessert, you can discover his must-try sugar crêpes or his crêpes Suzette…

L’Atelier artisan crêpier

This brand has several locations in Paris, the Ile-de-France region, and even in Lyon, Grenoble, and Cannes if you’re interested. For my part, I’ve tested the location near Mabillon twice. In addition to a gourmet menu based on crêpes, the brand also offers a lovely selection of ciders, which obviously doesn’t displease me, as I love this drink. In terms of decor, the establishment offers a very “cocooning” atmosphere with raw materials, warm colors, and very cozy spaces with armchairs and sofas to make you feel right at home.

Galbar

Galbar is a brand located on Rue du Faubourg Poissonnière that offers 100% buckwheat galettes and crêpes (made with organic flour) using very good, well-sourced products in a street-food style to be consumed on-site or taken away (super convenient to eat with the cone presentation!).

For a savory galette, I recommend trying the Galbar with Prince de Paris cooked ham, organic egg, Emmental, lettuce, and balsamic cream. And don’t miss the sweet version; I had a crush on the lemon meringue crêpe version, which was delicious! And the little glass of organic draft cider from the Mauret house goes perfectly with the crêpes and galettes.

Breizh Café

This brand has several locations in Paris, but also in Brittany, Lyon, Bordeaux, and even in Japan! Its concept is to marry Breton flavors with those of Japan, notably through buckwheat, a product used in both cuisines. The venue offers delicious organic, PGI Brittany stone-ground buckwheat galettes certified gluten-free.

Le Breizh Café Odéon

I must say that I find the crêpes and galettes at this Latin Quarter address, which I have visited twice already, really very tasty and original.

We tasted: the market Breizh rolls with cecina, green asparagus, fresh goat cheese, datterino tomato, green salad (€21); the specialty galette with smoked duck breast (€18); for dessert, I recommend trying the galette with buckwheat honey, puffed buckwheat, and buckwheat ice cream (€12.50) or the classic wheat crêpe with honey from Brittany and lemon (€6.90).

Le Breizh Café Montorgueil

The Montorgueil location has a beautiful cider cellar in the basement, and since September 2023, Breizh Café has been organizing cider tasting workshops there, which I had the chance to test in preview with the favorite photographer. On the program, we discover the history of this apple-based drink, then we taste 5 totally different exceptional ciders that will take your taste buds on a trip to Brittany. Each carefully selected cider is accompanied by a bite for an original food/cider pairing, like the one with their Breton oysters, which I loved.

This new brand address opened in 2023 and is located on Place Parmentier, which has the look of a village square in the Sablons neighborhood. There is a terrace, a private floor (20 seats), and an open kitchen to see the crêpe makers preparing the galettes. As in the other locations of the brand, there is a lovely selection of ciders and poirés (bottle prices between €18 and €38 / glass of cider from €4.90).

To taste: for a starter, I recommend trying the amuse-galettes, which change with the seasons; the Breizh Rolls, and we tasted the ones with Brillat-Savarin and truffle from Maison Bordier with ham from the Vallée des Aldudes (€18.50); seasonal galette with scallops, leek fondue, and puffed buckwheat (€22); for dessert, a crêpe with pear poached in cider with chocolate caramel (€12.50) or the Yuzu crêpe Suzette, flambéed with Grand Marnier (€14.50).

Mardi Crêpe Club

This friendly Fast-Good crêperie, very close to the Grands Boulevards, allows you to compose your own Mardises (square galettes and crêpes) by choosing from 50 ingredients. In addition, the wheat flour used for the dough is organic and the products are high quality and carefully chosen.

Price: crêpes to compose from €2.50 and then it depends on the number of ingredients you put inside…

The little extra: the handy little box in which the crêpe is sold, which allows you to take it away and eat it on the go very easily.

La Crêperie bretonne fleurie

A very nice address with typical decor and an adorable team. The crêpes are good and you get the feeling of having taken a little trip to Brittany for the duration of a lunch…

Flour

This restaurant opened in April 2022 around the theme of world galettes. Flour works with different types of galette dough (classic Breton buckwheat, fluffy, or flaky Indian paratha-style), from several origins, with different flours and preparation methods. The galettes are associated with seasonal recipes, with cooked products and inspirations from here and elsewhere.

At lunch, the concept is street-food style on-site and to go, and in the evening, it’s more about sharing with plates and tapas, with the galette replacing bread. For my part, I went to discover the address one lunch and I must say that we really enjoyed ourselves! And then, the icing on the galette, the decor of the place is very cozy and it’s really a charming place to sit down and have lunch. For dessert, I very, very, very highly recommend you try the buckwheat cookies, which are a real treat!

Buckwheat, la crêperie de l’hôtel Normandy le Chantier

The Hôtel Normandy Le Chantier launched a new ephemeral food concept in 2022 that revisits one of the pillars of French gastronomic heritage: the crêpe. At Buckwheat, “sarrasin” in English, the focus is on the quality of products carefully sourced from 100% French producers committed daily to the development of local and sustainable agriculture.

Dining indoors or on the terrace in a convivial and relaxed atmosphere, Buckwheat is situated at the corner of Rue Saint-Honoré and Rue de l’Échelle with a sunny terrace that is very pleasant for sunny days! My only small complaint would be the price of the crêpes, a bit too high I think, even if I understand that the carefully selected ingredients drive up the final bill… If you come for lunch, however, I recommend the lunch menu at €19, which is more interesting!

Cap Breton

I have already talked to you about this modern crêperie that used to have two locations in Paris in a previous article on the blog, but since January 1st, only the address in the 2nd arrondissement remains. The establishment is truly designed for busy Parisians looking for a good place to have lunch quickly at midday.

The restaurant is set up as self-service downstairs where you place your crêpe orders (there is even an iPad to take quick takeaway orders), then you go and sit with your tray at a table while waiting for the ordered crêpe to arrive. In the end, the place is quite large because it benefits from a dining room upstairs and some tables downstairs as well.
