I love seafood. Generally, I prefer eating it by the seaside, but it is always pleasant to find places in Paris that can offer a tasting of these products, but ultra-fresh, to get your fill of iodine.
A new spot of this style has opened in Paris in the Aligre/Bastille district: the Sea Bar Paris Pêche. This restaurant offers 100% homemade cuisine for those who love seafood.
In terms of decor, it reminds one of a boat’s cabin, and inside you can also find a vivier where lobsters and spiny lobsters lounge, not to mention the staff dressed in traditional sailor shirts, which immediately sets the mood.
The major asset of this address is its fishmonger shop (which supplies the restaurant), Paris Pêche, located a few meters away, which has had a solid reputation since 1997.
Here, freshness is truly the standard, and the fish, crustaceans, and seafood are purchased every night at the Rungis Market and “directly” from French commercial fishermen and oyster farmers, because the concept of the place is truly to create a menu where product quality is paramount.
To taste:
- For enthusiasts, I recommend the seafood platters (starting at €39) or à la carte with a wide choice of oyster varieties (Gillardeau, Fines de claires, Tsarine). It can be a good idea to get one to share as a starter, for example, as we did.
- For the main course, I tested the catch of the day with Bouchot mussels in cream sauce (€12), a treat!
- On the chalkboard menu, you can also find the fish of the day (prices between €18 and €30) such as this fresh grilled swordfish steak (€24).
- For dessert, I recommend the homemade chocolate mousse (€6) if you want to end the meal on a sweet note.
A little extra: a nice selection of wines by the glass that pair well with the house’s maritime specialties.
The great deal with low-price menus: the 6 oysters + 1 glass of wine menu for €10 / the Sea Bar menu with 6 oysters, 6 organic shrimp, and cooked whelks + 1 glass of Sauvignon for €29 / the Lobster menu for €39 with 6 oysters, ½ lobster, and 1 glass of wine
My advice: come on the weekend to enjoy the atmosphere of the Aligre market, the oldest market in Paris!
A little extra: a terrace for nice days, but that’s not all, as it is heated in winter.
