The best terraces for the Parisian summer of 2017

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

What could be more pleasant than a small terrace when the sunny days finally arrive? Of course, when you alternate between heatwaves and an early autumn, you have to choose your date carefully, but that’s another story…

Well, it is precisely in search of the best Parisian spots of the summer in terms of terraces that I have set out once again for you. It wasn’t really easy given the weather we’ve had so far, but I sincerely hope that this quest will still be useful for the rest of the summer (I’m crossing my fingers). After a beautiful selection in 2015 and 2016, what does the 2017 vintage have in store for us?…

Whether it’s for a drink or dinner, here is my little summer selection, which is non-exhaustive, of course, and which I invite you to complete in the comments!

The Les Maquereaux barge

This cool pop-up terrace is set up along the Seine, right next to a pretty barge, just like last year (I mentioned it in my article about terraces 2016).

The place has expanded a bit, and above all, it has added a restaurant (which I unfortunately didn’t have the opportunity to test) on the barge, with a new menu created by the Brazilian chef Alexandre Furtado.

On the terrace menu, seafood products served in planchas and tapas sourced directly from small producers, plus refreshing drinks for a seafood bar on the right bank quays, perfect for experiencing the new pedestrian banks of the Quai de l’Hôtel de Ville.

To try:

  • The seafood rillettes of the moment (€9), a delight!

  • A selection of well-balanced white wines to accompany the establishment’s iodine-rich menu (between €4.5 and €7 per glass).

The little extra: on-site, open-sea oysters are shucked on demand by a professional from the company Gliz ar Mor, in partnership with oyster farmers from the Côtes d’Armor (take a look at my articles on Binic and Saint Quay Portrieux). They are delicious and have a great seaside flavor.

Price: €12 for 6 oysters / €18 for 9 oysters / €24 for 12 oysters

Le Papa Cabane at the Hôtel Ibis Styles Paris Bercy

At the location of the afterworks by IBIS Styles Paris Bercy that I told you about in my article from last year, it is this year Le Papa Cabane that is setting up for a series of afterwork parties to enjoy long summer nights on a magnificent terrace of over 1000 m2 facing the Parc de Bercy.

A truly nice spot with decor much more stylish than last year; the furniture is made of pallets, there are cushions, fairy lights, it’s a great place to settle down with friends for an evening in the 12th arrondissement…

On the program: DJ set, pétanque, ping pong, foosball, food trucks (including Bocamexa, which I mentioned in a recent article about Mexican gastronomy), and a bar for drinks with a few cocktails.

Bubble up at the Hôtel Scribe

The summer season is the best time of year to enjoy the terrace and the lounge Bar of the Hôtel Scribe, one of the very beautiful hotel establishments in Paris.

The Renoir Gardens of the Musée de Montmartre

The Café Renoir and its charming tea room have settled on the most famous hill in Paris, in the gardens of the Musée de Montmartre.

It’s the perfect place to sit down in the heart of the capital while being very far from the city’s hustle and bustle, within a small bubble of nature that feels so good.

The Terr’Ice Moët of the Trianon Palace Versailles

The Trianon Palace Versailles is a very beautiful place that I have already told you about several times on the blog, notably for its restaurant.

To top it all off, the Maison Moët is adding a touch of freshness this summer by setting up its summer terrace.

This pop-up bar in collaboration with Cointreau, the famous orange liqueur, is located right at the foot of the Opéra Garnier, an iconic monument of the capital.

On the program: wide benches customized for the occasion and a terrace dressed in roses, a cocktail bar by Cointreau, DJ sets by the Boumette team.

The hidden terrace of the Hôtel Jules et Jim bar

Here is a confidential address that I hesitated to share here, because I wanted to keep it just for myself…

Invisible from the street and nestled in the heart of the hotel, the bar extends for the summer season onto its inner courtyard, adorned with a nice vertical garden.

People come here to sit down in a very relaxed atmosphere and sip the establishment’s delicious cocktails for hours.

To try:

  • the 363, with lavender-infused Campari (to reduce some of the bitterness of this alcohol), freshly squeezed lime, cane sugar syrup, and a Chinotto emulsion (€14)
  • the Smoked Alaska, a man’s cocktail that I don’t advise you to try on an empty stomach (at the risk of being a bit drunk quickly like the Man with the hat that night), with Tanqueray Gin, Mezcal, yellow Chartreuse, and grapefruit bitter (€16)

The penthouse terrace of the Hôtel Warwick Champs-Elysées

This chic and elegant hotel, which has 149 rooms, is ideally located on the most beautiful avenue in the world, in the heart of what is called the golden triangle of Parisian luxury.

With the arrival of sunny days, the hotel restaurant, le W, led by the young chef Ludovic Bonneville, gains some height and moves to the terrace, on the “penthouse” floor of the hotel with a magnificent view of the rooftops of Paris and also the Eiffel Tower.

In short, a place where you would want to hang out for hours because you feel so good there, a place I highly recommend for a meal or a drink for two, and besides, the cocktails are delicious and of high quality!

Terrace and afterwork at the Bissac restaurant

Le Bissac, which opened its doors in March 2014 in a former 16th-century building, is a beautiful gourmet address run by chef Damien Boudier.

On a corner across two streets, next to the Place de la Bourse, the cool terrace of the restaurant stretches along the Rue de la Bourse and Rue des Colonnes for dappled sunlight under the arcades. It’s a perfect spot for an aperitif with girlfriends or for two.

The tip: from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. it’s the Happy Hour rendezvous with 1 drink bought = 1 drink offered at €6 (red, white, or rosé wine, glass of brut champagne, bottled beer, or cocktail of the moment).

Inexpensive, the drink can therefore be accompanied by small cold and hot delicacies for the price of €6 as well. Everything is homemade and meant to be eaten with your fingers.
