My Michelin-starred restaurant recommendations in Paris and its surroundings

You may or may not know this, but I am a fan of gastronomy and I love testing Michelin-starred restaurants. So, in this article, I am sharing a selection of Michelin-starred restaurants that I have had the chance to discover in Paris (and the close Parisian suburbs), which I also regularly update as I make new discoveries (my tests span from 2011 to today). My favorite photographer and I are true food enthusiasts, and I must say we love discovering Michelin-starred restaurants, which often promise grand culinary moments. I also want to share my tips with you on how to enjoy these restaurants without breaking the bank!

1-Star Michelin Restaurants in Paris

Chakaiseki Akiyoshi offers a trip to Japan without ever leaving Paris. This address, opened in January 2023, is the work of chef Yuichiro Akiyoshi (who trained in a 3-star restaurant in Japan for 10 years and was an ambassador’s chef for 3 years) and is dedicated to the world of the tea ceremony. Here, they celebrate the art of chakaiseki or tea-kaiseki, a special meal served before tea ceremonies in Japan. This tradition, dating back about 500 years, allows you to drink thick matcha without a stomach ache by avoiding an empty stomach. The meal is intended to be simple, with the chef highlighting seasonal ingredients and primarily fish, with very simple seasoning. The restaurant earned its first star in the 2024 Michelin Guide.

The appeal of this address, in my opinion, is offering a unique experience that immerses us in the traditions of Japan and allows us to discover a ceremony that was previously inaccessible outside of Japan. The prices are high (all-inclusive menu at €240 for lunch and dinner), but the restaurant also offers reduced prices (all-inclusive menu at €160 for lunch) so you can discover this experience.

We had the chance to test the Michelin-starred restaurant of chef Akrame Benallal during an evening to discover the new creation of a Dominican Republic rum brand founded in 1888: Brugal. On the program was a gourmet meal specially prepared by the chef to pair with the Colección Visionaria cuvée, a rum edition smoked with Dominican coffee. I really loved the very intimate and chic venue, with a single room designed like a cozy and welcoming lounge, with a view of the open kitchen where the chef and his team are busy at work.

This address is that of Julia Sedefdjian, the youngest starred female chef in France. She offers a colorful and fragrant cuisine, an ode to the Mediterranean and great ingredients, as she is originally from Nice. In fact, the name of the restaurant, Baieta, means “kiss” in the Nice dialect.

Oxte ☆

We went on a high-level gourmet trip to Oxte, the Michelin-starred restaurant of Mexican chef Enrique Casarrubias. Opened in 2018 in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, the restaurant earned its first star in 2021. On the menu, you find an explosive and colorful cuisine that blends French and Mexican gastronomy. A must-try is the octopus, the chef’s signature dish that is truly exceptional! Regarding tips, I recommend coming to discover the restaurant for lunch to enjoy the appetizer, main, dessert set for only €65, and at this level of quality, it is definitely worth it!

Le Faham is the restaurant of Kelly Rangama (former Top Chef 2017 contestant) and her husband Jérôme Devreese (former pastry chef at Le Bristol). This establishment is a love story between two enthusiasts, but also between the cuisine of Reunion Island (where Kelly is from), Guadeloupe (where Jérôme’s mother lives), and modern culinary creation. It is in the heart of the Batignolles district in Paris that the lovebirds opened their small restaurant (32 seats) in June 2019. I must admit that it is a great success, because I was truly won over by the quality and finesse of their auteur cuisine. We actually tested the address just before it earned its first star in 2020.

As for decor, Le Faham restaurant is elegant, minimalist, yet warm with some touches of color on the benches and chairs. The open kitchen at the back of the main dining room allows you to see the chef and her team in action. A significant effort is made regarding product sourcing, especially for condiments and other treasures from Reunion and Guadeloupe, which are sent regularly by the families of the two lovebirds. Another small detail that I quite appreciated is that the knives used at the table come from the only cutler on Reunion Island.

I also really liked the small chef’s table (for 8/9 people max) installed at the back of the restaurant, right next to the wine cellar, which is perfect for lunches or dinners with a slightly more “private” atmosphere. This is where we were seated with a few other blogger and influencer friends during this visit to the restaurant Le Faham.

The gourmet restaurant of the Mavrommatis house truly stands as the ambassador of Hellenic cuisine in Paris. I have had the opportunity to eat there twice. The first time in 2017 before it earned its Michelin Guide star in 2018. And the second time in 2020 with my favorite photographer for an unforgettable Valentine’s Day dinner!

The Pavillon de la Grande Cascade and its famous restaurant, hidden in the Bois de Boulogne, has been run for several generations by the Menut Family. Upon arrival, you are captivated by the magnificent glass and metal canopy of this former hunting lodge of Napoleon III in Art Nouveau style, which sets the tone for the place, halfway between the Belle Époque and the Roaring Twenties.

We discovered this restaurant on the occasion of my favorite photographer’s birthday (it was a surprise) and I must admit that we were totally won over by the French cuisine of the Japanese chef Yoshinori Morié. The venue is very small and very intimate and nestled in the heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. The service is pleasant and extremely friendly. A beautiful moment of gourmet poetry and we will long remember those Uta Beach oysters as a starter.

Ze Kitchen Galerie ☆

In 2011, I went to the gourmet restaurant Ze Kitchen Galerie, which I had heard many good things about. Led by chef William Ledeuil, this restaurant offers a surprising marriage between Southwestern Asian cuisine and French cuisine. The venue is also quite remarkable with a modern and simple decor, which highlights painters since it also serves as an art gallery. As is my habit in this type of restaurant, we chose different dishes for each stage of the meal with my companion, so we could taste everything…

As a starter, we therefore had the duck and foie gras minestrone with Thai herbs above. And polenta with Thai spices and chorizo (absolutely sublime!). For the main courses, you will forgive me, but we were so hungry and it looked so appetizing that we forgot to take a picture of the pan-seared cod, spinach sprouts and its lemon/ginger aioli, as well as the suckling lamb also pan-seared, herb gnocchi and orange sauce. Well, that’s it, I feel like you’re angry with me… Dessert: white chocolate and wasabi ice cream, pistachio sauce, green tea emulsion and meringue (it was the best dessert of the two, and apparently it is a restaurant classic that always stays on the menu). And the sesame brioche, pepper ice cream and thick praline coulis (I found the combination of flavors a little less successful for that dessert).

We had taken the lunch menu with appetizer-main-dessert + a bottle of water + coffee and I find that the price/quality ratio is quite decent and the cuisine as surprising and subtle as I had heard, so it is a gourmet address that I recommend. However, if you book, I advise you to specify that you want an “intimate” table away from others, because we ended up on the bench and therefore quite close to our neighbors (bistrot style) and I would have liked a little more privacy. That’s the only thing I would reproach this restaurant for.

Ochre is the restaurant of young chef Baptiste Renouard (Top Chef 2019 contestant), who earned his first star in 2021. It has been located since January 2019 in the heart of an old house, on a cobblestone street, in the pretty imperial city of Rueil Malmaison, where the chef receives his guests as if at home. Baptiste and his team work on a menu that honors the products of his loyal local and Breton small producers.

During our visit in 2022, we tested his new menu which honors products from small producers through his “Epic” 7-course tasting menu. A huge favorite for the asparagus which were explosive, crunchy, and surprising! I also recommend taking the wine pairing if you like that, because we made some beautiful discoveries off the beaten path. For dessert, the chef’s “remembrance of a hot chocolate” is super comforting.

When I tested the Parisian restaurant of chef Hélène Darroze in 2011, it only had one star in the Michelin Guide, and it now has 2! The restaurant’s name has also changed, but it remains at the same address, in the 6th arrondissement of Paris.
