A while ago, I was lucky enough to be invited to discover the Parisian restaurant Spicy Home, which stems from an original concept based on the spice route and a new flavor menu.
The idea from Rajah Mathevannan, the founder of the establishment and a former cook for the Costes group, is to revisit French classics and marry them with the spicy flavors of the Middle and Far East through inventive bistro cuisine.
Located at a nerve center of the capital, Les Halles (1st arr.), the restaurant Spicy Home invites you on a journey of flavors along the spice route, from Lebanon to Japan, passing through India, China, Indonesia, and Thailand.
As for me, I headed to the restaurant on Boulevard Sébastopol—a central axis carved by Haussmann and finished in 1858 (for a little historical touch)—to test the brunch (you know my affection for and constant search for great spots in this category).
The place feels more like a lounge bar with a diverse and cosmopolitan clientele, and very hearty brunches for €17.50 are served every weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
For the price, the brunch is very decent; I particularly recommend it to big eaters (I was personally nowhere near being able to finish everything because the portions are so generous), and there is that little touch of originality with the mix of a spicy daily special that can be included in the brunch menu.
It is therefore a hearty brunch, ideal to enjoy with friends, especially if you have a few big eaters among your acquaintances…
On the menu:
- The Classic: scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, old-fashioned potatoes, pan-seared mushrooms, grated carrots, and roasted tomatoes
- The English breakfast: eggs, bacon muffins, English-style white beans, old-fashioned sautéed potatoes, spicy carrots, pan-seared mushrooms, and roasted tomatoes
- The French breakfast: dry sausage, country ham rillettes, old-fashioned sautéed potatoes, pan-seared mushrooms, and roasted tomatoes
- “Dish of the day from elsewhere” option
+ gourmet coffee + toast and a hot drink
The little extra: when evening comes, colorful and spicy cocktails as well as tapas are king.
In addition, every Wednesday, there is an afterwork organized by Beng Beng Paris with tastings, music mixes, and genre-blending for a very urban evening from 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM.
