My guide to the best burgers in Paris

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

I am very eclectic when it comes to food. I love gourmet, complex, and refined cuisine, but I also enjoy hot dogs, cupcakes, and especially burgers, which have become highly highlighted dishes in trendy spots across the capital in recent years with the arrival of the Street Food phenomenon. Here is my little Parisian guide, quite varied and diverse, to the best places to enjoy burgers: from the most refined to the most massive, from the most classic to the most exotic, from American diners to lounge restaurants…

And I update this article regularly to add new places I test over the years.

King Marcel: the burger made in France

King Marcel is a burger chain originally from Lyon that opened its first Parisian location in May 2015. The place is a 100% French fast-food joint offering homemade burgers using Limousin beef, served in under 30 minutes. You order at the counter when you walk in, then find a seat and your order is brought to you on a tray.

Regarding the burgers, I really liked the wrapped presentation which keeps the burger hot, which is super appreciable, because I find there are too many places where you eat your burger lukewarm, and personally, that ruins the pleasure a bit… Another positive point, the fries are homemade and super good (but definitely not light, hey, but they’re fries, what do you expect!). If you are in “watching my weight” mode, you can also pair your burger with a salad.

Only small drawback, if you want a quiet place for lunch, it’s definitely a fast-food vibe here and the background music is quite loud. So, for a romantic date, forget it!

King Marcel

13 Rue la Fayette, 75009 Paris

The little extra: You can enjoy the delicious cookies (€2 each) from the Fabrique à Cookies for dessert!

To try: the Marcel Patulacci with mozzarella + grilled zucchini and eggplant.

The price: burger prices at €11 / menus with fries + drink at lunch at €15

_

Arty: the burger in New York mode

Arty is a modern, trendy, and friendly restaurant, whose decoration reminds me of New York lofts and workshops, and which I have already tested twice. In terms of food: classic or original burgers, exceptional meat breeds, or fish.

The price: menus with starter + main or main + dessert €24 / à la carte +- €40

_

Les Frog Burgers: burger English-style

These burgers are served in the capital’s FrogPubs (previously there were other specialized locations for this brand, the FrogBurgers, but they have since closed), which I have already discussed more broadly in a previous article, are very good places to eat a good burger (very hearty) at a very reasonable price.

To try: their sweet potato fries are just killer! You absolutely have to taste them

Mamie Burger: the tasty burger

This very good place to enjoy succulent burgers in a rockabilly atmosphere has had numerous locations in Paris for several years (the first one opened was the one located on rue Saint Fiacre near the Grands Boulevards).

The quality of the products (100% Aubrac French beef for the burgers) and the kindness of the welcome are always present, with the advantage of a larger venue, to be able to enjoy your burger in complete tranquility and taking your time. And it’s true that Mamie’s burgers are really worth the detour, they are perhaps even my favorites in Paris…

Mamie Burger

16 rue de la Michodière, 75002 Paris

21 rue du Faubourg Montmartre, 75009 Paris

Open Monday to Saturday from 12 PM to 2:30 PM and 7 PM to 10:30 PM

The tip: the speed of service, always impeccable, and the feeling that you can really take your time, without anyone pushing you more or less subtly towards the exit…

To try: with your burger, I advise you to taste the Parisian beer, Gallia, very nice and local, too!

The price: menus at €12, €14, and €16 / burger prices between €9 and €10

The Hard Rock Café Paris: the SmokeHouse burger

This temple of music, and particularly rock, which I have already mentioned at greater length in other articles, is a true institution in Paris and around the world. If you want to try something a little typical, I advise you to discover the “SmokeHouse” burger (an American specialty with smoked meat).

The tip: the venue is also famous for its drinks menu with more than 150 cocktails, at prices that frankly defy all competition in Paris regarding quality and quantity

The price: about €17 for the burger

Restaurant La Plantxa: the couture burger

One of my very best gastronomic discoveries of this year 2014, this restaurant in Boulogne Billancourt, La Plantxa, is run by Juan Arbelaez, a young Colombian chef.

The plates at La Plantxa are both graphic and colorful, and in terms of flavors, the combinations are subtle and bold, revolving around fresh and vegetal notes. And the famous Pampa burger, lost under a thick bed of salad, is extremely original.

231 East Street

This French burger brand, which has existed since 2011, draws its inspiration from the streets of New York, as its name references the address where Andy Warhol created the Factory. The decor of the brand’s restaurants is arty with a design of urban fast food and a few objects in tribute to the founder of the Pop Art movement.

The products are high-quality (French beef, Somerset cheddar,…), the buns were developed by Olivier Nasti, Meilleur Ouvrier de France, and the house cheesecake is the one by Elisabeth Biscarrat, big winner of MasterChef 2011. Today there are 23 restaurants 231 East Street in France, including 4 in Paris.

To taste:

  • The burgers (between €7.50 and €8.50), of course, which are always prepared to order. You stay with classic recipes: hamburger, cheeseburger, bacon burger, chicken burger… but it’s well done! They can be accompanied by fresh fries (€2.50) cooked “à la minute,” which are really very good.
  • For dessert, we no longer had room for the house’s famous cheesecake (€4.20), so we opted for a small (well, that’s an understatement…) milkshake (€4.50).
  • I also advise you to look at the beers (from €3.50) to accompany your burger; for my part, I am still as big a fan of the Brooklyn.

Le bistrot Family: the burger of the day

Le Bistrot Family is a high-quality restaurant in the 6th arrondissement, a devotee of the culture of produce, all in a friendly, relaxed, and truly family atmosphere.

This new neighborhood spot, opened by Remi Lebon and Dimitri Labaye, works with fresh products and offers a nice burger menu, with a lot of originality.

The tip: the burgers of the day, which allow you to test new original recipes regularly, and the super table knife, super sharp, which allows you to try eating your burger with class (even if it remains very difficult, let’s be honest).

To try: the salmon and tuna burger with guacamole, just delicious!

The price: burger prices between €19 and €25 (served with salad and homemade fries).

Crush Smash Burger

This dark kitchen created during the lockdown is located in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, and it delivers smashed burgers all over Paris in 20 minutes flat.

On the menu of this place, therefore, smash burgers, meaning burgers whose patty is prepared on a hot griddle and smashed using a press to give it a thinner aspect with a crispy caramelized crust and a juicy texture inside (appetizing, right?!). As for sides, I recommend you try the cheesy fries which are covered in a homemade cheddar sauce, or the tenders, pieces of French chicken marinated in buttermilk. As for products, they use Angus beef and fresh French chicken, and all recipes are homemade!

Crush Smash Burger

delivery every day in Paris

The little extra: the very specific technique of cooking the patty

The price: count between €9.90 and €13.90 for a burger

L’Atelier Big Fernand

Perhaps one of the most famous addresses in Paris for eating quality burgers. At Big Fernand, you come to eat “hamburgés” and don’t you dare pronounce it otherwise, or you’ll get a slap on the wrist…

On the program: a counter-ordering system before sitting down, quality products, and an insane atmosphere, made of conviviality and a lot of humor. You are never bored eating at Big Fernand, it’s impossible! Well, it’s also hard to hear each other, it’s true, but you get nothing for nothing…

L’Atelier Saint Georges: the branded burger (closed)

L’Atelier Saint Georges is a burger restaurant installed in the Pigalle neighborhood of Paris, about which I have already made a more complete article that you can find below. The address offers stylish and gourmet burgers, prepared with carefully chosen products, the bread is made in an artisanal way in a local bakery, and the meat is hand-cut.

The price: from €14 to €20 (for the foie gras burger), all accompanied by succulent homemade fries or green salad

Le CDS: the cinematic burger (closed)

Located at Square Desnouettes, in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, this restaurant with a terrace, in an American-style universe and decor, offers a wide choice of burgers: simple, double, and sometimes even triple!

The products are high-quality and fresh in this burger bar, and Charolais meat is used for the Scarface, for example (yes, the burgers have movie names!).

We go there mainly for the American diner atmosphere, to try to eat the triple burger (reward to be had for big eaters), and then to enjoy the charm of the small terrace on sunny days.

The tip: lunch menus at a low price (€11.50 and €12.50) / Happy Hour Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 6 PM to 8 PM.

To try: try to take up the challenge of eating the triple burger (apparently, a reward awaits big eaters…).

The price: burger prices between €11.50 and €16 (simple and double burger).
