The best terraces of the Parisian summer 2020 and 2021

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

What could be more pleasant than a little terrace for the sunny days?! And I think that this year, it was also something of a miracle solution to save our restaurateurs and our dampened spirits at the same time. Obviously, though, given the weather this summer, you have to choose your date carefully, but that is a different topic…

Well, I have just set out again for you in search of the best Parisian spots for the summer, in terms of terraces. It wasn’t really easy given the grey weather at the beginning of July, but I sincerely hope that this quest will still be useful for the end of this summer and for the start of the school year (fingers crossed). After a lovely selection in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, what does the 2020 and 2021 vintage have in store for us?…

Meal on the terrace: chops, fish, wine, and bread on a wooden table.

The sunny terrace of the Roch Hôtel & Spa

It is always a pleasure to return to the restaurant of the Roch Hôtel & Spa (which I mention quite regularly on the blog and also on my Instagram account @mellebonplan) to discover the establishment’s latest news.

This summer, chef Rémy Bérerd invites us to once again enjoy the superb hidden terrace of the establishment for a quality barbecue. On the program: simple yet refined cuisine with excellent products. I am still just as much of a fan of his colorful plates that make you want to savor them as soon as you see them arrive at the table!

A little bonus for this Barbecue formula: the chef cooks outside at the bottom of the terrace and the dishes are prepared “à la minute” for the customers. A friendly atmosphere is guaranteed, and it’s also the perfect opportunity to see Rémy Bérerd and his team in action! The menu also changes regularly, so the dishes we tasted below might not be the ones you will find on the menu during your meal. Regarding wine, it is the sommelier Céline Dalbin, founder of “À Vos Caves”, who has developed a wine list to match the menu.

In short, as every year, the terrace of the Roch Hôtel & Spa is a little gem that we only reveal to the people we love, because we know they will have a wonderful time, a break in the heart of the capital, and that they will feast on the chef’s cuisine, which has never disappointed us.

Le Patio du Vendome

In the heart of this 5-star hotel, which opened very recently (last February) in the Opéra district, hides a green oasis. This small, intimate, pop-up terrace called Le Patio du Vendome is a spot that is still quite confidential (but that certainly won’t last…) and is passed around by word of (masked) mouth.

Located on Rue du Helder, a stone’s throw from the Opéra Garnier and Place Vendôme, this new luxury establishment is part of the revival of a legendary place steeped in history, the famous hotel, restaurant & cabaret: Le Lyon d’Or.

On the program: light snacks for nibbling and, for drinks, a selection of wines and champagnes, plus a few refreshing cocktails.

Le Trinquet Village

I had already told you about this place in my “Terraces” article from 2016 if you remember. Nestled near the Seine on the 16th arrondissement side, this address has been a mecca for Basque pelota in Paris for years!

This summer, this legendary address offers a super relaxed place with a large area that hosts a selection of food trucks, but also an open-air bar, barbecue and paella evenings, a musical stage…

On the program for the food court designed by “Le Comptoir des marchés”: a selection of world cuisines in street-food mode: la Brigade (which I already told you about on the blog), Kalimera, Thaï at Home (which I told you about in my article on Thai restaurants in Paris), Food Breizh, Bombay Spice, les Délices de Fatima, oysters from the Ile d’Oléron, Chez Irfan, Pizza Del Popolo…

Colorful hammock over a sports field with a woman sitting on the bleachers.

As for drinks, I advise you to go to the bar located on the right side when entering to discover the organic artisanal cider Amour d’Herout made in the Cotentin in Normandy, and which is really very good!

For our part, we completely fell for the seafood and oyster stand from the Ile d’Oléron, and we had a big, iodine-filled treat because I had missed it so much! In short, Le Trinquet is really a great spot for this summer season!

Le Jardin Bohême

Every Thursday evening of the summer, the Jardin Bohême opens its doors from 6 p.m. at the Chalet du Lac (at the edge of the Bois de Vincennes) for a very nice summer evening! A very bucolic and relaxed spot in the northern part of the Bois de Vincennes (near the Saint-Mandé metro station), perfect for afterworks on Thursday evenings!

On the program: bar, meat and green food barbecue, burgers, fries, ice cream, live concerts, ping-pong table, foosball…

La Terrasse Taishô

This summer, Keisuke Yamagishi, the chef of the starred restaurant Etude, is opening a pop-up terrace during the summer closure of his restaurant, right in front of the Eiffel Tower, in front of the Aquarium of Paris.

His summer terrace, Taishô, offers an exclusive menu, developed by the starred chef for the occasion. You will find refined and gourmet cuisine that harmoniously blends Western and Japanese flavors.

Taishô terrace with a woman sitting at a table, Cigar Truck in the background.

I warmly recommend this address because it is the perfect opportunity to discover the refined cuisine of this talented chef in a relaxed setting and at a gentle price (between €8 and €14 for appetizers and between €16 and €26 for main courses).

To taste: the salmon tartare with kabosu aromas (€12); beef yakitori; the soft Nasu Dengaku eggplant which is incredible (€16); or the Karaage chicken (€22); for dessert, the Chokorētotarto, a Brazilian Itakuya grand cru chocolate tart, the chef’s specialty for lovers of strong chocolate (€10).

Regarding drinks, I recommend the Yuzu beer (€7), very refreshing, or the Yuzu Tonic cocktail (€15), and regarding wines, there is a very short selection but with very nice products (wine by the glass between €9 and €16).

La Terrasse du Gloster Bar

I already told you in a previous article about this beautiful cocktail bar address that the favorite photographer and I really love. It is located on the ground floor of the Hôtel La Bourdonnais in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.

For this summer, the Gloster Bar is offering a small extension onto the street and is installing its small summer pop-up terrace in front of the hotel. As for cocktails, Kévin, the establishment’s bartender, offers us his creations, which are always successful and perfectly balanced.

Cocktails to taste: the Scorpion and the Rhubarb Daiquiri and a pop-up selection of cider cocktails.

The terrace of the Fulgurances restaurant at L’Entrepôt Paris

This very cool artistic living space (cinema, concert hall, gallery) located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris has been hosting a Fulgurances restaurant and its famous chef residencies since July.

The Fulgurances concept is to host rising stars of gastronomy through resident chefs to align with the venue’s cultural policy. Right now, there is an Iranian chef behind the stove in the evenings until next November. At lunch (this is when we went with the favorite photographer), it is the permanent chef of the restaurant who delights us, and we really validate her simple yet finesse-filled cuisine.

We also fell in love with the very, very charming (and quiet) small indoor terrace of the establishment, which is invisible from the outside! And special mention also for the decor of the place, which I found truly stunning!

The icing on the cake is that I think the place offers a very good value for money with a lunch menu at €24. It offers 3 choices for appetizers, main courses, and desserts, and each time there is a vegetarian option.

Also taste the beautiful selection of organic and natural wines on the menu (wines by the glass between €5 and €8). In short, a great address that we recommend 120% with our eyes closed (can you feel the enthusiasm?!).

Le Jardin Suspendu

Le Jardin Suspendu is a great ephemeral summer venue set up for its 3rd edition in the heart of the Parc Floral in the 12th arrondissement of Paris at the Chesnaie du Roy pavilion.

On the program: 22 food trucks (which change regularly) like Totin which offers 100% French street food with sandwiches and more particularly the classic Parisian Ham and Butter (Jambon Beurre) (€7.50) but with top quality local products (farmhouse semi-salted butter, Prince de Paris ham, farmhouse Brie de Meaux…); numerous games (baseball, shuffleboard, giant Jenga, giant mikado, giant dominoes, horseshoe toss or bean bag toss, darts…); and a beautiful program with events (concerts, DJ sets, blind tests, Bingo Disco, Roller Disco, karaoke, balls…).

In short, it’s a nice spot nestled in the greenery with a very relaxed atmosphere, perfect for summer evenings with friends!

La Bamba

La Bamba is a great ephemeral summer venue set up for its 4th edition (last year I already told you about this place which was called the Jardin Suspendu) in the heart of the Parc Floral in the 12th arrondissement of Paris at the Chesnaie du Roy pavilion. This year, the terrace takes on a Latin vibe to make us travel a little even while staying in Paris!

On the program: lively evenings from Thursday to Saturday with a central bar, street food stands and other food trucks (Nolita Street Food Truck; Cantina Paris; Cabane Bouron), and live concerts and DJs!

In short, it’s a nice spot nestled in the greenery with a very relaxed atmosphere, perfect for summer evenings with friends!

Lively terrace with wooden architecture and large bay windows.

The fashion angle: it was also the opportunity to debut my new vintage Morra leather bag from the Dupond Durand brand that I adore (pictured above)!!! This brand has existed for 14 years and offers online leather bags (made in Italy) but also costume jewelry.

The tip: with the promo code GAELLE30 you will get 30% off the entire Dupond Durand website from 08/25/2021 to 09/01/2021 inclusive!

La Terrasse d’Eataly Marais

I had been hearing about Eataly for a little while, but I hadn’t had the opportunity to go yet. That is now done since this summer, when I went to test their summer terrace.

Set up in the heart of the Marais, this place is 100% dedicated to Dolce Vita and Italian gastronomy. Which is obviously not something we dislike… There are several restaurants and stands around Italian cuisine, but also a market selling many Italian products. The terrace, for its part, is hidden at the back of the establishment and has a lot of charm.

Terrasse Eataly Marais Paris with artisanal ice cream stand and menus.

On the program: a nice selection of mozzarella and burrata rigorously sourced (I recommend you taste the delicious Stracciatella: €10 with sides); succulent pizzas (between €8 and €17); pasta (even if we were less convinced about the pasta than the rest); as for dessert, however, Eataly offers one of the best tiramisus that I have eaten in Paris (and you know how addicted I am to this Italian cake).

And regarding drinks, I obviously recommend you taste the beautiful selection of Italian wines of the address!

Grand Café d’Athènes

This address, open for about 1 year and which replaces the Paris Texas restaurant that I had already told you about on the blog, is located in the bustling rue du Faubourg Saint Denis in Paris, in the heart of the 10th arrondissement.

The Greek bistro offers a menu with Mediterranean flavors and, in summer, a pleasant light wood terrace is installed right in front of the establishment. On the plates, chef Chloé Monchalin twists the classics of Greek gastronomy with a lot of refinement and modernity.

For the summer, I advise you to sit down in meal/tapas mode and share the different mezzedes on the menu with your table, which are all delicious!

To taste: for mezzedes, I recommend the white tarama (€9), the tomato-keftedes (€8), tomato, pepper, and feta fritters; for the main course (which can also be shared without any problem), we loved the seared tuna salad with zucchini and white peaches; for dessert, if you haven’t eaten too much, you must test the house’s essential loukoumades (€9), hot traditional fritters covered in chocolate sauce; if you want a slightly lighter dessert, I freshly recommend the Greek frozen yogurt (€8) which is super good; as for drinks, the place has a nice cellar with Greek natural wines (wine by the glass between €6 and €10).

Maison Louveciennes

This charming address located in Louveciennes in the Yvelines, about 20 minutes by car from Paris (large parking lot in front of the restaurant), is a haven of peace to get a change of scenery for a weekend without going extremely far. Ideally located on the banks of the Seine, the restaurant looks like a chic guinguette and its ephemeral beach with deckchairs, installed this summer below the terrace, really gives the feeling of being on vacation, if only for the time of a lunch.

We went during the heatwave, and it was too hot to sit on the beach, but we enjoyed the terrace upstairs, which offers a beautiful view of the river!

Shaded terrace with a view of the river, bistro chairs, and guests.
Restaurant terrace under a veranda with yellow banquettes and green bistro chairs.

On the plate, we find fresh, seasonal cuisine that is very well done. The service is also impeccable without being too overbearing, which creates a generally relaxed atmosphere while remaining very professional.

To taste: the cocktails are super good (about €12 per cocktail); the ceviche like in Peru “by Orlandino” is perfect for the season; for meat lovers, the Black Angus beef Picanha is delicious; the melting octopus cooked on embers is very successful for those who like this product; for desserts, very good artisanal ice creams and sorbets; for wine by the glass, count between €6.50 and €8.

The Coq Rico street-food offer

This summer, chef Antoine Westermann is offering a new 100% poultry street-food offer, with a New York inspiration, in his Coq Rico bistro installed in Montmartre. It is available for takeout or for eating in on the terrace.

The opportunity to have a chic bohemian picnic on the hill or a dinner on the terrace while admiring the sunset in Montmartre, which always has a lot of charm.

On the program for this finger food offer: the poultry sausage from Le Coq à la plancha with tomato and basil confit (€11), which is really to be discovered because these sausages have been homemade for years by the same person at the restaurant and it is a real treat; the poultry burger, arugula, poultry jus, pineapple chutney, and candied pineapple mayonnaise, Pain Poujauran buns (€12); whole Ratte potatoes, fries, Noirmoutier powder salt (€6); and finally to accompany the potatoes, Gribiche style sauce, onions, fresh cilantro & mint (€1.50).

Coq Rico poultry burger on sesame bread on a white plate.

Regarding take-away desserts, we let ourselves be tempted by the dark chocolate mousse with strawberry and lime marmalade and chocolate crumble, and I was also thrilled by the delicious Coq Floating Islands (Iles flottantes) with their custard made with 12 vanilla beans that made me fall back into childhood… It had been a long time since I had eaten any, but those were really worth tasting!

"Bon Appétit le Coq Rico" label on brown envelope.

And then an important point to specify: all the dishes for this take-away menu are ecological, plastic-free, compostable, and biodegradable because they are made from plants!

The little extra: the small terrace installed on the sidewalk of Rue Lepic in front of the restaurant for the sunny days.

Le FlonFlon

This terrace with a “village square” atmosphere opened at the end of August on the quay opposite the OFF Paris Seine. On the program for this festive place: colorful garlands, things to eat and drink (the menu was imagined by chef Salim Esselate), a great musical atmosphere with a Jukebox piano and DJs after dark, two pétanque courts, and every Wednesday a giant Bingo organized by Brain Magazine.

In short, a great program with concerts as well, which will be unveiled over time on the venue’s social networks. Le FlonFlon also hosts Chronologic evenings every Saturday, which start in the 50s and end in 2000.

Summer terrace Flonflon Paris 13th with "Bienvenue à Flonflon" signage.

Regarding food, we tasted the chef’s skewers (salmon, octopus, and chicken / between €16 and €18 for 3 skewers) which were quite famous, I must say!

The terrace of the Café/Restaurant of the Rodin Museum

The Rodin Museum inaugurated its new restaurant this year, very recently completely renovated, the Augustine, which is located in the magnificent gardens of the venue. And then obviously, how can you not fall under the charm of its superb terrace with a view of the sculpture garden of the Rodin Museum. An idyllic setting in the heart of this unique green oasis in Paris!

The menu is signed by chef Amandine Chaignot. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to test it because we went there with the favorite photographer on a Sunday morning to enjoy a quiet, cool breakfast.

We also took advantage of this morning to discover the path of old photos recently hung in the garden. These remind us that Rodin moved here, to the Hôtel Biron, between 1908 and 1917 before the place became a museum in 1919.

Sâj street-food counter and terrace by Chef Alan Geaam & Maison Alpérel (closed)

Chef Alan Geaam is usually installed in his gourmet restaurant (1 star in the Michelin guide) or in his Qasti bistro in the Marais. This summer, he opened an ephemeral street-food counter of Lebanese flatbreads made with wheat and corn flour, 100% homemade, to eat on the go. This counter is located just in front of the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection, which also just opened its doors this summer.

The ideal opportunity to go and discover the iconic Lebanese Sâj flatbread x Alan Geaam, which is absolutely delicious, while leaving from a little cultural visit (in the district you are spoiled for choice, because it is also very close to the Louvre) or shopping at Les Halles.

To complete his offer, the Chef partnered with Maison Alpérel which offers 6 of its traditional flavors of sorbets and cream ice creams. It is the first time that the brand has sold its products to go: vanilla, caramel, chocolate, lemon, mango, and strawberry. Chef Alan Geaam has also created 2 signature ice cream flavors that will be made by Maison Alpérel. The latter makes products from natural ingredients, and production is located in the Ile de France region.

Edit 07/16/2021: unfortunately, the counter was recently dismantled prematurely due to various problems related to its location…
